We use a wide variety of rental bikes on our cycling holidays!
We know how important having a good quality bicycle is on a cycling holiday especially if you are not using your own bike. You will be riding the bike nearly everyday of your cycling holiday and you need to be confident that the bike is suitable for the cycling holiday that you are going on.
We work with local suppliers to ensure that the bicycles are well maintained, frequently replaced and that mechanical things that are often the cause of so much frustration are minimised for you.
As we work with different suppliers to operate the cycling holidays throughout varied parts of Europe, the bikes will have different technical specifications between cycle tours. All bikes are hybrid bikes (unless stated) and include basic maintenance tools, small panniers and are a mixture of brand name manufacturers or locally sourced brands.
Bike hire is included in the price of all of the cycling holidays advertised.
Sturdy touring or hybrid bikes with upright style and 17 to 23 inch frames, derailleur gear systems with 7-27 gears, rapid fire or grip shift changers, and comfortable saddles.
Our bikes are from a variety of manufacturers including Giant, Raleigh, Trek. On our cycling holidays in Italy, Austria and Germany, the bikes are custom designed to suit the requirements of the terrain and of our customers.
Please note that road bikes are not available on any cycling holiday on this website. This is due to local routes potentially not being suitable for road bike tyres or drop handlebars. We find that hybrid bikes are the best choice for leisure cycling holidays and allow you to cycle anywhere.
Hybrid bikes with a less upright style with 16” to 20” frames and derailleur gears.
Mountain bike style with 11” to 14” frames and derailleur gears. Suitable for children aged 7 to 11 years old.
For children who are not yet independent cyclists we use 'tag-along' bikes. Please ensure that an adult pulling a tag-along is a competent cyclist.
For the youngest children
Baby and toddler seats are available.
E-Bikes are available at a supplement on many of our holidays. E-Bikes use a strong, rechargeable lithium battery mounted behind the seat tube or over the back wheel to assist pedal movement. Pedalling effort is still required but is much reduced, especially on hill climbs if the maximum assistance setting is selected.
The extra weight of the E-Bike is more than offset by the benefits from pedal assistance. You simply charge the battery up each day as you would a mobile phone or another portable electronic device.
The use of an E-Bike can bring holidays within your range which you might otherwise consider too difficult.
Standard equipment issued with bicycles:
Puncture repair kit & spanners
On cycling days you carry with you only those items you need during the day. Your main luggage is moved by us each time you change hotel.
When you book we shall ask you for your 'Cycling Measurements' - height and inside leg - so we can have the right sized bike ready for you at the start of your holiday.
Can I take my own bike?
On most of our holidays this may not be practical due to the difficulties of transporting a bicycle by air or rail.
However, if you want to use your own bike we will reduce your holiday cost to reflect this - just ask when booking.
We do not recommend bringing your own bike as we may not have the spares should you encounter a problem on the cycling holiday.
