The Médoc is the huge wine producing area to the north west of Bordeaux. Names like Margaux, Pauillac, and St.Estèphe are world famous and synonymous with fine wine. Every village in the area is associated with wine and hundreds of wine châteaux will dot your route through the Médoc. All will welcome you, but you may wish to visit just a recommended few to appreciate the culture and artistry of wine-making and to sample the produce!
Minor roads which criss cross the Médoc are perfect for cycling. You will see a surprising diversity of landscapes, including the Gironde estuary with its small ports, forested areas and heathland. The longer holiday takes you to the beautiful Atlantic coast with its long, sandy beaches and focus on surfing , and the wonderful forests and lakes lying a few kilometres inland.
Accommodation is in 3 star hotels and delightful, welcoming chambres d’hôtes . All evening meals are included. Transfers from/to Bordeaux airport, railway station or hotel are also included. An extra night or two in Bordeaux is recommended and we can arrange hotel accommodation if required.
This holiday provides great appeal for anyone with an interest in wine and cycling, and also shows you the varied landscapes of this fascinating corner of France. |
