The Loire region is defined by its unique architecture, and its elegant châteaux are the foremost symbol of this. Perhaps the best known of all the châteaux – Chambord, Chenonceau and Chaumont – can be visited during this holiday.

Chambord impresses by its sheer scale with a mere 440 rooms, and with its intriguing double spiral staircase and astonishing roofscape. Chenonceau is considered by many to be the loveliest of the Loire châteaux, stretching beautifully across the River Cher and surrounded by splendid formal gardens. Chaumont is situated high above the Loire and presents an imposing spectacle with its large round towers and drawbridge.

The cycling between these fine châteaux is on quiet roads through the former hunting forests of the aristocracy, passing small villages, and on occasion smaller châteaux like Beauregard and Villesavin.

Blois, Amboise and Tours are your three bases, all situated on the banks of the majestic Loire and each offering its own rich historical flavour and interest. Your hotels are all well located and each stop has an attractive pedestrianised area offering a good choice of restaurants.
