‘Boat & bike’ is a holiday format we introduced in 2008. It met with an enthusiastic response! The first boat we used was the splendid Vita Pugna, a traditional Dutch barge which was fully converted to meet the requirements of today’s discerning traveller. In 2007 the boat made an incredible journey across Europe from Holland to Venice, via the Rhine, Danube, and then across the Aegean and Adriatic Seas – no mean feat for a flat-bottomed boat more used to the placid waters of canals and rivers ! Vita Pugna has 10 twin-bedded cabins with private facilities, a spacious saloon/dining room, and a sundeck.

Encouraged by the success of Vita Pugna, we are now delighted to introduce a second boat. Ave Maria is a completely new boat, completed in December 2010, with only the original hull of a 1970’s River Po sand-digger remaining. A stylish new design from a renowned Italian marine architect has produced an attractive boat fashioned specifically for the new ‘boat & bike’ market. Public areas include a saloon with restaurant and lounge and two sundecks. Accommodation is very flexible : up to 40 guests can be catered for in a mix of double, triple and single cabins.

Both boats will sail the popular route between Venice and Mantova, or Mantova back to Venice in seven days. Both routes include two nights with the boat moored on the island of Giudecca, a short vaporetto ride from St.Mark’s Square. You have a full day to explore the many remarkable sights of Venice.

The ‘boat and bike’ formula offers much : all meals included, and the flexibility to cycle in a group or on your own are two attractive features. For those who want something a little ‘different’, and the chance to meet new people in an informal setting, a holiday on board Vita Pugna or Ave Maria could be an excellent choice !
