This guided holiday will show you the historical and cultural treasures of Castile, the province lying in the heart of Spain. Segovia is the most dramatically sited city in Spain, set high on a rocky spur, with its Cathedral, Roman aqueduct, and famous fairytale castle, the Alcázar towering over the city. Àvila is the highest provincial capital of Spain and is surrounded by magnificently preserved walls. The countryside is no less dramatic – the Sierra de Gredos with its olive trees and cherry blossom and vultures soaring overhead is one of Spain’s best-kept secrets. The final stage takes you from the wine growing area of Cebreros through pine forests and beautiful scenery to the magnificent summer palace of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.
