Much of this route follows the course of the River Ebro from its humble origins in the green pastures of Cantabria near Reinosa through varied landscapes of valley and canyon into the region of La Rioja, home of Spain’s finest wines. Haro and Laguardia, the final two stops, are lovely towns with attractive old quarters with many convivial wine taverns and cellars (bodegas). We include a visit to a bodega and wine tasting in Haro.
For nature lovers there is much to impress : alpine flowers and orchids, and a remarkable range of birdlife from golden orioles to kites, vultures and shrikes.
This is a holiday with huge appeal. You will discover a part of Spain overlooked by most tourists, with an enticing range of landscapes and authentic atmosphere.
