With the chance to see some of Austria’s finest mountain scenery and a host of attractions for all ages, we think that this trip is perfect for families wanting to enjoy a mix of easy, stress-free cycling and fun activities.

The itinerary is relaxed, allowing plenty of time to explore the region by bike, on foot and even by cable car ! An enticing array of activities are also available, from tobogganing, archery and rafting to exploring incredible caves, gorges glaciers and waterfalls.

The tour starts in the pretty village of Krimml, high in the Hohe Tauern National Park, close to Europe’s highest waterfall which plunges 1,250 feet in three remarkable cascades. The cycling route follows the Salzach Valley on dedicated paths through pine forests, picturesque villages and flower-strewn meadows.

As you approach Kaprun, the snow-capped peaks of Austria’s highest mountain range come into view, at 12,400 feet the Grossglockner is an awesome sight. The route continues along the lakeside through stylish Zell am See via Maria Alm, an attractive village at the foot of the imposing Steinernes Meer mountain range, then onwards to Maishofen and Lofer, before returning to Salzburg, where you have the option to extend your holiday and explore this historic city.

The Tauern bike path is well detailed and signposted. The route leads through quiet villages on paved paths and country roads. A few very brief sections you will ride on unpaved paths. This cycling tour is also suitable for families with children.

This magnificent bike trip will be a very memorable experience and one not to be missed !
