Starting in the 17th Century, large parts of North Holland was recovered from the sea and reclaimed through the use of hundreds of water pumping windmills. It’s here to the North of Amsterdam that you will find the stereotypical Dutch landscape of polders, mills and harbours.
On this trip, you will be sailing to the island of Texel, a magnificent nature reservewith thousands of sheep. Back on the mainland the route brings you to Holland’s most beautiful dune area. These are also the only stretches of the route you will be cycling above sea level!
