On yer bike – not yours, ours!
It’s one of the most common questions sent our way, but no, you do not need to bring your own bike on our cycling holidays. Nobody wants to be carting bicycles across the continent, or even further afield than that, so we provide your bike for you. We have vetted the very best and trusted bike hire companies in each of our destinations, so all you have to do is get yourself to the village, town or city for the start of your holiday, and your bike will be ready and waiting at the resort. Just ask us when booking. We don’t recommend this option, due to the fact that we may not have the required spares should you encounter a problem on your holiday.
It’s far from the road to nowhere
Forget about Max and Paddy; our cycling holidays take you to some of the best places on planet earth. Seriously, grab that bucket list and start ticking off the places with us. All our holidays are themed to suit whatever you want from your break away. They also put the option in your hands. Bike rides tend to be less than 50km each day, starting and ending back at the ship. If one day you don’t fancy a ride on the bike, then just stay onboard and enjoy the waterside. It’s as simple as that. These kinds of tours are becoming increasingly popular, year on year, especially our famous routes along the River Danube and the quirky canals of Holland.
Leave your luggage with us
There’s nothing backpacker about a cycling holiday. Our point-to-point holidays include luggage transfers. That means you drop your bags with us, enjoy your bike ride to the next location, and we’ll transport your luggage for you – hassle-free. They’ll certainly be no bad backs from carrying your bags, since they’ll be ready and waiting for you at your hotel. And talking of accommodation, we work with local companies to ensure that the hotels include at least bed and breakfast and places to store bikes safely and securely. Avid cyclists frequent many of the hotels, guesthouses and other accommodations, so there is no need to be self-conscious about turning up in your cycling gear – that’s exactly the way they like it!
You don’t need to be a Tour de France winner
If you choose to travel with Freewheels Holidays, you can be comforted in the knowledge that no one on the biking tours is expecting the next Sir Bradley Wiggins or Chris Froome. Being a Tour de France winner may help you race up the hills, but you don’t need anywhere near those extreme levels of fitness to enjoy our range of tours. A reasonable level of fitness is all we recommend for all of our holidays. Obviously, certain tours are more strenuous than others, as some cover great distances and hilly terrains. However, if you can’t remember which part of the garage you last left your bike in, re-acquainting yourself with two wheels before your trip might be a good place to start.
