Cycling Holidays for Beginners : Things to know!

There’s no doubt that cycling holidays can be some of the most fulfilling and enjoyable experiences you can have abroad. But when we’re first starting out, they can seem like a daunting task.

But with the preparation, knowledge and enthusiasm, preparing for your first cycling holiday needn’t be anything to worry about! At Freewheel Holidays we’re experts in organising and delivering some of the most exciting cycling holidays in Europe. So if you’re considering taking on a cycling holiday in the near future, here are a few tips on cycling holidays for beginners:

Research your route

Good preparation is the key to success in any aspect of life, and the same can be said for travel!

If you’ve booked a cycling holiday for beginners to a location you’re unfamiliar with, be sure to research your new location and route well in advance:

Where are the famous landmarks? Where are the hotels you’ll be staying at? Where can you stop-off for some food and drink? And plenty more variables.

Or, even if you’ve been to the specific location in question before, there’s absolutely no harm in brushing up on your knowledge of the local and surrounding area!

Luckily for you, at Freewheel Holidays we’re well-versed with all of the cycling holidays for beginners we offer, so you can rest assured you’ll be fully prepared with a detailed route map when you book a Freewheel cycling holiday.

Consult your travel company

Heading off on a cycling holiday for the first time can be a scary process. But there isn’t really anything you need to worry about!

They’re a fun, exciting and surprisingly relaxing way to discover a brand new location and travel the world in style!

However, should you ever have doubts about any aspect of your trip, the best thing you can do (apart from your own research as we discussed above) is contact your chosen travel company. They’ll be able to assist you with any enquiries you may have and help give you some peace of mind before you set off.

The team at Freewheel Holidays are always ready and waiting to assist you with your cycling holiday enquiries, so feel free to get in touch before or after you book!

Light training

Despite what you might think, you don’t need to be a super athlete to enjoy a cycling holiday!

In fact, the vast majority of Freewheel tours are ideal cycling holidays for beginners. Many of them feature easy-to-ride paths, with some of the most beautiful scenery, in some of the most picturesque locations in all of Europe.

But, just to be on the safe side, it’s best if you manage to squeeze in some light training before you head off. Just to be sure that the routes, while relatively simple, won’t tire you out too much.

Spend a few weeks in the lead-up to your holiday fitting in some quick cycling training sessions. It doesn’t have to be anything testing; Just something that’s enough of a challenge to be sure your legs will be able to carry you for the duration of your trip. Stamina is always a welcome help!

Choose the right location

We all have our dream locations; The places we hope we get to visit in the near future. They’re usually the big ones: Rome, Paris, Amsterdam. Which Freewheel are happy to provide for our customers! But that doesn’t mean they’re the only options…

For example, our Rural Routes allow you to truly get to the heart of a country, exploring some of the more set-back and cycle-friendly trails regular tourists might miss.

So, whether you’re after cycling holidays for beginners or your an experienced rider, wherever in Europe you’re looking to go, let Freewheel Holidays take you there.
