Follow the Rhine Cycle Path along the famous River Rhine, on this relaxed self-guided cycling trip. An easy tour along flat terrain, you will have ample time to explore the towns of Mainz and Rudesheim, and the fascinating city of Cologne. The stretch between Mainz and Koblenz is a must see UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you will pass many lush vineyards, pretty villages, picturesque scenery and cultural attractions, as you make your way through this famous region.
Day 1: Individual arrival to Mainz
We recommend arriving early to Mainz! There is so much to discover in this wonderful city! The Roman-Germanic central and the Gutenberg museum, the imperial palace and the elector castle are all well worth a visit!
Day 2: Mainz – Rüdesheim approx. 35/50 km
Welcome to a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, Upper Middle Rhine valley! Your first stage leads you through soft vineyards and well-known wine villages.
Here, the Rhine flows gently, and shapes small picturesque islands. In places the stream bed has expanded to a latitude of 800 m. If you want to visit Eltville or monastery Eberbach, youwill have an additional 15 km to cycle. In Rüdesheim there are plenty of options to keep you entertained: a wine tasting, an excursion through the well-known Drossel-vannel, a relaxed journey to the Niederwald monument by cable-car, the list goes on...
Day 3: Rüdesheim – St. Goar approx. 40 km
Gorgeous fortresses await on today's adventure! We can recommend taking a walk up the Loreley. From the top you will be greeted a beautiful view towards the Rhine valley.
Day 4: St. Goar – Coblenz approx. 35 km
Today your ride will take you to Boppard, where you can go by chair lift, into densely wooded and peaceful altitudes. Aternatively, you can visit Marksburg and Castle Stolzenfels, on your way to Coblenz.
Day 5: Coblenz – Bad Godesberg approx. 60 km
Today you will cycle through inviting wine villages, thermal spas and beer gardens. If you would rather rest today, no problem! There is also the option to go by ship from Coblenz to Bad Godesberg.
Day 6: Bad Godesberg – Cologne approx. 45 km
Take some time to explore Bonn, the birthplace of Beethoven today; it is on your way to Cologne. The stunning Clolgne Cathedral is unmissable, and when you see it, you will know you are not too far away from your hotel. There should be plenty of time to discover this beautiful city and all the treasures it is home to!
