Discover a different side to Rügen and spend time as a guest in a castle or manor house. Visit the world -famous chalk cliffs and enjoy the coastal views, seaside resorts and fishing villages as you cycle round this idyllic island.
You will begin your journey on a Saturday in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund with time to take in the culture and visit the various tourist attractions on offer. The following day sees a ferry trip to the island of Rügen where you will take in the historical castles and manor houses, cycle through picturesque villages, the national park and along the scenic coastline before returning to Stralsund for your final night.
Day 1: Arrival in Stralsund
Your trip will start with a Saturday arrival in Stralsund where you will have time to independently explore the city with its town hall, monasteries and churches. The Cultural History Museum is worth a visit and offers interesting insights into the history of the city and Vorpommern.
Day2: Stralsund – Hiddensee – Rügen (Wittow) approx. 20-28km
This morning sees a ferry trip (included) to the island of Hiddensee. You can explore the smaller, car-free, sister island of Rügen either on foot or by bike before sailing across to Rügen in the afternoon. You’ll spend the night on the Wittow peninsula (Breege / Juliusruh).
Day 3: Excursion to Cape Arkona and the Wittow Peninsula, approx. 24-40km
You’ll experience a variety of landscapes as you independently visit Cape Arkona to the north of the island. Here you’ll be able to explore the ramparts of the former Slavic castle of Arkona, the lighthouses of the cape and the village of Vitt. The coastline around the peninsula offers scenic views of the beaches and bays above Dranske and Wiek. Overnight stay as on the previous day.
Day 4: Wittow - chalk coast and Königsstuhl - Jasmund, approx. 22-45km
Today you continue via the Schaabe Spit to Glowe passing the Renaissance castle Spyker and the manor house Neddesitz before reaching your accommodation near Lohme. Not far away you’ll find the chalk coast with the Königstuhl, you may choose to visit the National Park Centre there. Your overnight stay will be at either the Schlosshotel Spyker or the Golfhotel Schloss Ranzow (tour operator’s choice).
Day 5: Chalk cliffs to the seaside resorts, approx. 29-45km
Cycle through the Jasmund National Park with its ancient beech trees to the old harbour town of Sassnitz. You will pass the ferry port of Mukran, the gateway to Scandinavia, and follow the coastline via Prora to the pretty seaside resorts of Binz and Sellin. Tonight’s accommodation will be in a spa hotel in one of the seaside resorts.
Day 6: The Mönchgut peninsula and Stresow Bay, approx. 19-55km
Today you’ll discover the Mönchgut and the south of Rügen which were special places of romanticism at the time of C. D. Friedrich who is generally considered to be the most important German artist of his generation. Travel along the picturesque Reddevitzer Höft headland which runs to Stresow Bay. You’ll stay overnight in Badehaus Goor near Lauterbach a house built by the Prince of Putbus for the privileged German and European nobility.
Day 7: Through the beautiful south back to Stralsund, approx. 50-52 km
Travel along the idyllic paths which lead you to the villages of Poseritz and Gustow. You’ll cycle via the small town of Garz, with its Slavic castle complex and the Ernst Moritz Arndt Museum (which you may visit independently if you wish). Then continue back to Stralsund where you will spend your final night.
Day 8: Departure from Stralsund
Following your final overnight stay in Stralsund and breakfast you will depart and make your own way home or extend your stay if you wish.
The cycling tour around the island of Rügen is a partially hilly route over dedicated cycle paths, some sandy tracks and low traffic roads.

About the Rental Bikes
This cycling holiday uses quality crossbar and unisex hybrid bikes. Quality Shimano components and puncture-proof tyres are among the components that will ensure you have an enjoyable cycle tour.
You will also receive a handlebar bag and map holder for easy navigation while. Prices advertised on the website include standard bike hire (unless stated). Colour and specification may vary from the image shown.

Accessories
If you would like GPX files for a suitable device, please request them at the time of booking. Devices are not provided. Please ensure you bring any fittings required to attach the Garmin (or similar) to the handlebars. You might want to download maps onto your phone to avoid data charges when roaming.
All bikes are provided with standard flat pedals. You can bring your own cycling pedals but ensure that you have the correct tools to remove the pedals if the tour does not have a welcome meeting. You may also not be able to travel through airports with the tools if you are carrying hand luggage only.
You can rent a men's bike with a crossbar, unisex/female bike with a sloping tube or an electric bike for a supplement.

Frame Sizing
When you make a booking with us, we take your height(s) and the appropriate bike size is matched up accordingly. Unisex frame 21-gears with freewheel. Sizes: 56 / 51 / 46 / 43 cm. Unisex 7-gears-bikes with back pedalling brake. Sizes: 56 / 51 / 46 cm. Men’s speed bikes 21-gears with free wheel and crossbar. Sizes: 64 / 60 / 56 "sloping" cm. Helmets are not provided, and you will need to bring your own to use.
We always recommend wearing a helmet when on your cycling holiday!
Bike Hire Insurance
This cycle tour benefits from bike insurance against rental bike theft and damage in the holiday price. Please make sure you lock up the bike, leave it where told by the hotel, and treat your hire bicycle as if the bike was your own. Any negligent treatment of the bike will exempt you from cover. We advise you to ensure that you have adequate travel insurance for your cycling holiday prior to arrival.
Electric Bike Hire
Why not upgrade your cycling experience to an E-Bike (Electric Bike)? Using a power assisted bike is a great way to go on a cycling holiday and will help you smooth out inclines or longer days in the saddle. Each E-Bike features an LCD display, removable batteries for easy charging, and assistance up to 25 km/h. They have a range of around 120 km for each full charge.
