This Baltic Sea route has an incredibly varied landscape, from fine sandy beaches to untouched stretches of beach in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Enjoy one of the plenty of opportunities of dipping into the Baltic Sea! You can also discover cities with buildings with typical brick, fishing villages with “Bodden” lagoon scenery and go on boat trips. This is one of the favourites with our travellers!
Day 1 – arrival in Lübeck
After making your own way to Lübeck, get acquainted with this historic Hanseatic town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has been since 1987. What makes this city so popular is the Holsten Gate, marzipan, and Thomas Mann. Kick things off with a yummy fish roll!
Day 2: Lübeck – Hohen Schönberg / Boltenhagen apprix 40 / 50km + ferry trip (not incl)
Take a look at Germany’s oldest lighthouse in Travemünde and then travel along the coast. You’ll pass through Brooker Wald nature reserve and then not long after you’ll arrive in Boltenhagen, which is the second oldest seaside resort in Mecklenburg. You can catch a view of the whole bay from the cliffs.
Day 3: Boltenhagen - Wismar approx. 45 / 30km
As you head off, you will keep by the coast and then arrive in the old Hanseatic town of Wismar. Don’t miss an excursion out to Poel Island where you can discover long sandy beaches and have a dip in the sea. There are still old city walls from the Thirty-Year War creating a fascinating landscape.
Day 4: Wismar – Bad Doberan approx. 60km (cat B)
Wismar – Kühlingsborn / Warnemünde approx 45 / 65km + ferry and train ride (cat A)
As you head to Kühlingsborn, the route will vary with landscapes of cliffs and beautiful beaches, which gives a beautiful view as well as plenty of swimming opportunities. In Bad Doberan you can take a wander and go through the English park, Kamp or you can take a ride on a steam train called “Molli” which will take you to the beach.
Day 5: Bad Doberan / Warnemünde – Wustrow / Ahrenshoop, approx. 30 – 60 km + ferry trip (not incl.)
Get spooky in the “haunted forst”, which is named for its mix of trees that are all formed with curious shapes due to moist and salty tea air that was blown in during storms. You’ll then head to Wustrow going via Warnemünde on Fischland-Darss peninsular, this used to be the border between Mecklenburg and Pommern.
Day 6: Wustrow – Barth, approx. 45 km (cat B) Ahrenshoop – Zingst / Barth, approx. 25 / 40 km (cat A)
Today is another day of exploring beautiful nature. Explore the “Darßer Wald” (Darss woods) and the charm of the wild west beach, which is thought to be one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. From Prerow you can only reach this beach on foot, by bike or by horse and carriage. You will then head back to the mainland via Zingst where your destination for the day will be Barth, once part of Sweden.
Day 7: Barth / Zingst – Stralsund, approx. 45 / 60 km
On the last, but certainly not least day of your tour be greeted by the three towers of the Hanseatic town of Starlsund. This was once an important trading town and there is still evidence of this to be seen today. Round off your trip with a great last night in the old town, which has UNESCO World Heritage site status because of how immaculately preserved it is.
