The tour kicks off in Austria’s capital of Vienna where you can enjoy the cultural and culinary delights. Pedal along the Danube Cycle Path, seeing beautiful scenery along the way such as the Donau-Auen national park. Enjoy the medieval city centre of Rust. Once you’ve finished your adventure, you will be able to say you have visited three of Europe’s capitals; Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest.
Day 1 – Arrival in Vienna
After making your own way to Vienna, get acquainted with Austria’s capital. The city lies on the Danube River and offers a laid-back atmosphere in coffee houses or typical restaurants. You can enjoy some Sacher cake or even take a pleasant walk on the ring road. Sleep at our partner hotel.
Day 2: River Danube and Bratislava (approx. 50km)
Enjoy a delicious breakfast and then at 8:45 you will be picked up by the tour-coordinator from the hotel reception. In the morning you will receive a briefing about the route and have a final check of the bikes. Kick off your cycling on the Hubertus embankment which goes along the river Danube, which is also a nature reserve. On the way you will also see two amazing castles. You will eventually reach Bad Deutsch Altenburg, a spa site. You will be receiving a transfer right into the heart of Bratislava; this fantastic historical town is the capital of Slovakia. Day 3: Lake Neusiedl cycle path (approx. 60 km)
Head off for your first stop of the day, Parndorf. You’ll then pedal along the banks of lake Leusiedl through the towns of Rush (“The town of the storks”) and Mörbisch. Your final destination of the day is Sopron, which is the only town in Hungary that has a completely preserved Medieval town. Learn the history of nine-year-old Franz Liszt who first publicly performed piano in 1820.
Day 4: Haydn and the Eszterházy Dynasty (approx. 56 km)
It’s time to enjoy some gorgeous scenery on the Fertö (Neusiedl) Lake and the surrounding areas. The gorgeous landscape inspired the genius Haydn. Pay a visit to the gorgeous baroque palace of the prince family of Eszterhazy in n Fertöd. Genius Joseph Haydn spent nearly 30 years as a composer and conductor in the castle. Day 5: Nature and Thermal Lake (approx. 60 km)
Today’s route offers quaint and idyllic villages. The way is dotted with stork nests on rooves and masts. Arrive at the famous spa resort of Hévíz which is home to Europe’s largest natural thermal lake. Get settled into the hotel and then take a dip in the “all-season” lake or go for a walk in the neat spa park. Nearby is the town of Keszthely, which has a Castle and Castle Park Festetics which is a part of Austria-Hungarian history.
Day 6: Lake Balaton Cycle Route, then Budapest (approx. 56 km)
Cycle just a few kilometres and then arrive at freshwater Lake Balaton. There’s an abundance of sightseeing to do as you go through the town of Keszthely at Lake Balaton. Start by cycling on the west side of the lake followed by the south. Enjoy some pleasant cycling along the flat side of the lake. On route there’s also the option to swim whilst enjoying an extensive view. Take one last glance at the beautiful lake before a transfer picks you up to whisk you to Budapest. Budapest is known as the “Queen of the Danube”, enjoy the iconic river view and some free time.
Day 7: Individual departure or extension of stay
Enjoy a last breakfast and then the world is your oyster.

Distance: Approx. 282 km
Difficulty level easy to medium. Diverse route which is mostly flat with some soft hills. Visit the two largest lakes in Hungary and the one-of-a-kind geothermal pool at Hévíz. Uses the fantastic main cycle path network, apart from some shorter roads with low levels of traffic between villages and woodlands.
We recommend flying to Vienna airports to reach the starting point of this cycling holiday.
Flights are available with a number of airlines to your required airport or you can travel to the start using alternative methods such as rail or road.

About the Rental Bikes
This cycling holiday uses quality crossbar and unisex hybrid bikes. Quality Shimano components and puncture-proof tyres are among the components that will ensure you have an enjoyable cycle tour.
You will also receive a handlebar bag and map holder for easy navigation while. Prices advertised on the website include standard bike hire (unless stated). Colour and specification may vary from the image shown.

Accessories
If you would like GPX files for a suitable device, please request them at the time of booking. Devices are not provided. Please ensure you bring any fittings required to attach the Garmin (or similar) to the handlebars. You might want to download maps onto your phone to avoid data charges when roaming.
All bikes are provided with standard flat pedals. You can bring your own cycling pedals but ensure that you have the correct tools to remove the pedals if the tour does not have a welcome meeting. You may also not be able to travel through airports with the tools if you are carrying hand luggage only.
You can rent a men's bike with a crossbar, unisex/female bike with a sloping tube or an electric bike for a supplement.

Frame Sizing
When you make a booking with us, we take your height(s) and the appropriate bike size is matched up accordingly. Unisex frame 21-gears with freewheel. Sizes: 56 / 51 / 46 / 43 cm. Unisex 7-gears-bikes with back pedalling brake. Sizes: 56 / 51 / 46 cm. Men’s speed bikes 21-gears with free wheel and crossbar. Sizes: 64 / 60 / 56 "sloping" cm. Helmets are not provided, and you will need to bring your own to use.
We always recommend wearing a helmet when on your cycling holiday!
Bike Hire Insurance
This cycle tour benefits from bike insurance against rental bike theft and damage in the holiday price. Please make sure you lock up the bike, leave it where told by the hotel, and treat your hire bicycle as if the bike was your own. Any negligent treatment of the bike will exempt you from cover. We advise you to ensure that you have adequate travel insurance for your cycling holiday prior to arrival.
Electric Bike Hire
Why not upgrade your cycling experience to an E-Bike (Electric Bike)? Using a power assisted bike is a great way to go on a cycling holiday and will help you smooth out inclines or longer days in the saddle. Each E-Bike features an LCD display, removable batteries for easy charging, and assistance up to 25 km/h. They have a range of around 120 km for each full charge.
