This classic tour takes you around the entire lake, showing off all of its highlights along the way as well as the historic towns of Constance, Stein am Rhein, Meersburg, Lindau and the festival town of Bregenz.
Take the time along the route to discover the beauty of Lake Constance and explore the area. The first section is slightly hilly but otherwise level, on dedicated paved cycle paths close to the lake.
The path sometimes follows brief sections that are unpaved; around Friedrichshafen the cycle path is briefly alongside the main road. The banks of the lake are widely accessible to the public. An ideal cycling destination for families.
Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance/Kreuzlingen
You start your tour in Constance, Lake Constance's biggest town. The Rhine leaves Lake Constance here, on its way to the North Sea. Only a few minutes by foot from the medieval town centre is the Swiss town of Kreuzlingen with its lively harbour. Take the opportunity to visit the island of Mainau or the Sea life centre in Constance. Overnight stay in Constance/Kreuzlingen
Day 2: Constance - Unteruhldingen/Meersburg 25/30km + boat trip
You leave Konstanz and cycle only a few kilometres before crossing the lake by boat to the Überlingen side of the lake. You pass the romantic Baroque Birnau church before shortly arriving in Uhlginden. In and around the lake dwellings you will find out all about the exciting lives people led on the lake over 6000 years ago. And you and your family can try a lot of things out yourself! Overnight stay in Unteruhldingen/Meersburg
Day 3: Unteruhldingen/Meersburg - Friedrichshafen 15/10km + boat trip
Following the Lake Constance cycle path you cycle through vineyards via Immenstaad to Friedrichshafen. In the Zeppelin Museum of this trade fair town, you can see a copy of the famous Hindenburg airship which is a true copy, right down to the very last detail. Or if you prefer, let your day come to a more relaxed end on the harbour promenade and enjoy the views of the Alps.
Day 4: Friedrichshafen - Lindau, 30 km
This section first takes you through Langenargen. This is where you'll find Montfort Castle, built according to the old Moorish style. Next, cycle off through lush green orchards and charming little villages such as Wasserburg and Nonnenhorn. You soon arrive in the Bavarian town of Lindau, whose harbour is watched over by a 6-m high lion. The old windy historic quarter is on an island which gives it its own very special flair.
Day 5: Lindau - Rorschach region, approx. 40 - 50 km
Only a few kilometres now separate you from Austria and the festival town of Bregenz. The famous sea stage is always an eye-catcher. Just before Höchst, you cross the Rhine, which flows into Lake Constance here. This countryside is unique and has been declared a nature reserve. Once you have crossed the border to Switzerland, you will see the colourful Hundertwasser market hall in Altenrhein.
Day 6: Rorschach - Constance/Kreuzlingen, 35 - 40 km
From Rorschach you follow the banks of the lake through small, well cared for communities and larger villages. The typical Swiss way of building is easily recognised in the facades you see here. Arbon, a former Roman settlement, welcomes you with its extensive lakeside promenade. Via the harbour town of Romanshorn you're now on the home stretch of your round trip around Lake Constance, back to the town of Konstanz.
Day 7: Departure or extended stay
After breakfast your holiday along the Lake Constance cycle path is over. If you wish to spend longer in this beautiful area we would be happy to extend your stay in Konstanz.
The first three stages are a little bit hilly. Lake Constance cycle path runs along the edge of the lake, mostly flat and without traffic. Sometimes minor roads are used, allowing beautiful scenic views. Appropriate for families.
