Ride a section of a brand new European cycling path on this self-guided short break holiday.
Cycle along the crystal clear water of the Isar River to the impressive Lake Kochlesee and follow beautiful trails through typical Bavarian towns. Admire the majestic mountain ranges, stroll through colourful old towns and ride through the Murnau Moos, the largest marsh land area in Central Europe.
This is a relaxed cycling holiday and makes for the perfect introduction to this fascinating region.
Day 1: Arrival in Munich
Today will begin with a welcome briefing, after which rental bikes will be distributed and fitted. Munich, the capital of Bavaria awaits. This vibrant city will invite you in with its wide variety of attractions (English Garden, Town Hall, Hofbräuhaus,…).
Day 2: Munich – Lake Starnberg approx. 45-60 km
Your tour will start from Munich. Your first ride will take you from Forstenrieder Park to Lake Starnberg. From Starnberg, the tour will continue on a bike path next to the lake. You can ride to to Ambach, or further on to Bernried. Here, you can relax for a while by the side of the lake. Enjoy the view of the crystal-clear waters and impressive surrounding mountains.
Day 3: Lake Starnberg – Murnau am Staffelsee approx. 30 km
The route today will lead you along scenic trails through traditional Bavarian villages. You will pass the Osterseen lakes and Lake Riegsee on the way to Murnau am Staffelsee. Many of the lakes you will pass look so inviting you will almost want to swim! In Murnau there is more to visit than just the Münterhaus. The town has always been strongly connected to art and music, and this can clearly be seen in the local people, their customs, and architecture.
Day 4: Murnau – Bad Tölz approx. 50 km
The fourth ride will take you past Lake Kochlsee and Benediktbeuern. You will also cycle through charming landscapes en route to Bad Tölz. In the past, this location, at the crossroads of two major trade routes - the river Isar and the old salt route from Reichenhall to Allgäu – allowed this town to quickly develop into a thriving trading centre. The ornate mansions still stand as a reminder of this golden age.
Day 5: Bad Tölz – Munich approx. 60 km, (departure or extension)
For your final ride, you will take to the Isar bike way, which will take you from Bad Tölz, over Geretsried and Wolfratshausen, and directly to Grünwald. After a few short climbs you will reach the end of your tour, back in Munich. You can either depart tonight or book an additional night, to explore Munich or the surrounding area.
Difficulty: Medium
You cycle to and from the bakery, but only when the sun is shining. Cycling has to be fun and is not just a method of fitness in your eyes. Nevertheless, gentle hills or longer sections on gravel tracks don’t pose any problems for you. You pedal along enjoying the lovely views in the countryside as you go.
There are a few short climbs, but they can be conquered easily by pushing the bike.
You will cycle on beautiful bike ways and minor roads.
Main roads will only be used for short distances.
Overall, this is a rather easy tour.
Total distance cycled: 200 km
