Sightseeing Cycling Holidays With Freewheel Holidays

Sightseeing by Saddle

Cliff Richard famously sang, “We’re all going on a summer holiday, no more working for a week or two” but it appears that more and more of us are ignoring the nation’s favourite golden boy and packing our bags for just a few days. According to a recent ONS report, trips of a week or less are absolutely booming with three nights breaks now the most popular length of holiday after seven nights. So, what kind of trips are we going on? The answer is sightseeing holidays. From snaps of the beautiful Park Guell in Barcelona to loved-up selfies in-front of the Eiffel Tower, we Brits are travelling the world and taking in everything it has to offer. We have so many sightseeing holidays to choose from in Europe alone, and that is where Freewheel Holidays can come in with a helping hand, or should we say a helping wheel. Our fantastic range of cycling holidays allow you to see some of the most famous landmarks on the planet, and all from the comfort of the saddle. Here are some of our favourite cycling sightseeing tours…

Pisa To Florence Cycling Holiday

As far as Italian cycling holidays go, this is right up there with the very best of them. Sights, smells, tastes, you name it and this Florence cycling holiday has it. Starting in the beautiful city of Pisa you’ll have the chance to take in the famous Piazza dei Miracoli and the iconic leaning tower of Pisa, all before you’ve even got on your bike. Day two starts with a leisurely ride north along the River Serchio to Lucca, famed for its medieval style buildings like the unmistakable Guinigi Tower. You’ll then ride onwards to the town of Pescia and go through Pinocchio’s Park in the village of Collodi, the place where the author of Pinocchio spent his childhood. After an overnight stop in the stunning Tuscan city of Montecatini, you’ll wheel on down to Florence, affectionately known as the ‘cradle of the Renaissance’ thanks to its breath-taking monuments, churches and historic buildings. None are better than ‘The Duomo’ in the centre of the city. Capturing the Florence skyline, this is one to add to your list of must-visit Italian cycling holidays of a lifetime.

Paris To Versailles

Thanks to the Tour de France, the romantic city of Paris is well known for its affection for the bicycle. If you hadn’t noticed, there are one or two sights to see as well, making this one of those cycling holidays that you just have to go on. Our cycling holiday to Paris and Versailles covers some of the best of them. Starting in the French capital, you’ll pedal your way out into the Paris countryside along the banks of the River Seine and on towards the unmissable castle of Vaux le Vicomte and its fabulous French gardens. Next up is the imperial forest of the palace of Fontainebleau before you discover the royal city of Dourdan and cycle in the vast forest of Rambouillet. The tour will wind through the valley of Chevreuse, finishing at to the Palace of Versailles, a world heritage site and the masterpiece of the King Louis XIV. Cycling sightseeing tours don’t come much more scenic than this.

Bruges and Flanders Fields

If history is your thing, then our cycling tour to Belgium will be right up your street. The West-Flanders region offers an ideal mix of nature and culture, not to mention the stories and tales left behind from World War One. It is one of those unique places where you can enjoy silence along canals and open landscapes, with culture never far away. On the second day of your tour, you will pass through the Tyne Cot cemetery, the largest graveyard for English soldiers in WW1, before moving on Leper where you will have the chance to visit the ‘In Flanders Field Museum’. The cycling tour will then continue to the Belgian coast, stopping at the Het Zwin nature reserve and the picturesque village of Damme. All before your tour comes to an end by passing through the d’Aertrycke and Wijnendaele castles and finishing in the town of Roeselare. Feeling inspired?
