Ride along the Atlatic coast, in an area of Brittany that is known in France as the world's end!
After spending the night just steps away from the castle medieval of Brest, you will head out on your bike will, on a tour that will take you to the edge of the harbour. You will then enjoy a ferry crossing with your bike, of course. The beginning of your stay is sure to set you up for a great trip!
First you will discover the charms of the Crozon peninsula, then there's a climb for those who want to brave it, to of one of the 7 Breton summits. You will climb to 330m altitude (from sea level) and find yourself towering over a whole section of the route.Your efforts will be rewarded with incredible panoramic views and they you can enjoy a nice descent to your charming hotel, which is situated in the heart of the forest. Here you can revel in the peace and quiet, and recover from your first days efforts.
The Pointe du Raz is worth the effort of the 2 further stages it takes to reach it. A very special atmosphere awaits you here. We must leave the bikes and head out on foot to reach this world’s end. The jagged coast, sheared by the wind and the incessantbeating of the waves has carved out a spectacular landscape.
From Brest, you take a boat crossing (30 min) of the Roadstead of Brest to the peninsula of Crozon. You will travel the peninsula, cycling along the harbor to the Pointe des Espagnols, also called the Cap Corse of Brittany. You cross Camaret, a charming port, known for its beautiful Vauban tower, and then drive to Tas de Pois (pea heaps) of Pen-Hir, rocky islands that give the feeling of being at world’s end!
Day 3 - FROM CROZON (LE FRET) TO LOCRONAN 44KM, 705m
This morning, walk along the bay of Douarnenez between creek, beach and valleys. The last hills of the Armorican massif head out towards the sea, like one of the seven mythical peaks of Brittany, the Menez-Hom. The route will now lead you to Locronan, one of the most beautiful villages in Brittany. This evening you will be just a few kilometers from the village, staying in the middle of the woods.
Cross the port of Douarnenez, and ride along the bay to the Pointe du Van. Today you will discover the Baie des Trépassés. An end of the world atmosphere awaits you, as well as one of the most beautiful sunsets of Brittany.
A few kilometers into todays journey, you lock the bikes to walk the path that leads to the tip of the Raz. This is a spectacular walk at the world’s end! Afterwards, jump back on the bike, and head along the bay of Audierne. Eventually you reach the port of the same name. This route is called “The Solar Wind Route”.
The Solar Wind route continues and will leasd you today to the very tip of Torch, an area that surfers know well. Later, on arrival at Penmarc’h, you will discover the Eckmul lighthouse. At 4 p.m., be sure to be at the port of Guilvinec where many locals and tourists will gather to enjoy the return of the fishermen to the port; a beautiful colourful and traditional affair.
Today you reach the seaside, arriving at Loctudy, before crossing the beautiful city of Pont-L’Abbé, a city highly rated among the small cities of character. Riding along a pleasant greenway formed from an old railway line, you eventually reach Quimper. The capital of the French Cornouaille, which offers you a beautiful cultural stop. The architecture, the pedestrianised streets and half-timbered houses are remarkable. A visit the cathedral is sure to be a highlight, and not an experience to be missed!
End of your bike trip in Brittany after breakfast.
