This seven-night tour takes in all that the beautiful, low-key Balearic island of Menorca has to offer. From inland pine forests to picturesque coves and rocky cliffs, immerse yourself in this stunning, unspoilt landscape. Your trip begins in Mahón, where you will have plenty of time to discover this charming capital and its famous harbour. You will also encounter unspoilt countryside, pretty beachside towns with sweeping bays and fascinating architecture from lighthouses and fortresses to Bronze-Age caves. The trip ends in the beautiful medieval town of Ciutadella.
After arriving at Menorca Airport you are free to make your own way to the hotel in Mahón or take an optional transfer. Once you have settled in there will be a welcome meeting where your bike will be professionally fitted and you will be provided with all the information that you need for your trip by our local guide. Depending on your arrival time you will have the opportunity to walk around the bustling capital of Mahón, where you can enjoy the lively atmosphere at the harbour side and explore the charming maze of streets.
Today's ride will begin with a tour around the beautiful city of Mahón and a visit to the imposing fortress of La Mola, which lies at the entrance to the harbour. After riding back along the picturesque harbour and through the city, you will leave Mahón and make your way to the famous Cales Coves, ancient Bronze-Age caves carved high into the rocks. The pretty beach town of Cala en Porter is your next stop, followed by Torre d'en Galmés with its Talaiot prehistoric settlement. After a great first day's riding you will arrive at your accommodation for the night, a typical rural Menorquin house in Alaior, in the centre of the island.
Today's ride is a circular one, arriving back at the same accommodation. You will ride the North side of the island, through rugged inland landscapes of pine and oak forests and lush farmland, before arriving at a leisurely pace to Cap de Favaritx where you will stop to take in the view of the imposing lighthouse and its striking lunar surroundings of slate coloured rock.
Leaving the interior of the island, today is all about the beach! You will ride to the Cap de Cavalleria lighthouse, which rises from the cliffs high above the sea. You can walk from the lighthouse down onto the beautiful white sands of Cavalleria beach, where you can enjoy a walk along the shoreline and dip your feet into the pristine water. Afterwards, you will head to the beach at Binimel, with its warm lagoons and rolling sand dunes. You will end your day at the pretty resort of Port Fornells, where you will stay for the evening.
Leaving Port Fornells, you will ride towards Sant Tomas, along the old royal path (Cami Reial). Crossing the island from North to South through scenic countryside, you will ride through the towns of Es Mercadal and Es Migjorn Gran. After a stop at Sant Tomas beach you will carry on to the impressive Cala Galdana bay, a sweeping horseshoe bay dotted with pine cliffs and magnificent houses. You will have free time to take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters before a relaxing evening meal in one of the many harbour-side restaurants.
Today's stretch first runs along the wonderful southern beaches, riding to Turqueta and Macarella coves. Transfer included from Cala Galdana to Cala Macarella by car (around 45min). These beautiful and remote beaches have high cliffs covered in pine-trees which drop down to the pale white sand and crystal-clear water. The day ends at Ciutadella. Ciutadella is a veritable jewel, built of limestone. It lights up the facades of the stately palaces in creamy golden hues, it paves the narrow streets with their lovely arched porches built in ancient medieval times. The gargoyles on the cathedral were carved from it. Ciutadella's walls tell a story of feudal lords, medieval traditions and invading Turkish pirates. But the city has moved on within these historic surroundings, and filled the streets and little squares with charming outdoor cafes and designer shops. The sheltered harbour lies under the ramparts and has plenty of delightful restaurants to choose from.
Today's cycling will take you along Menorca's wildest coast. The coastline encompasses the stunning scenery of La Vall, including the 207 metre high Falconera cliffs, lakes, dunes, spectacular gorges and unspoilt beaches. You will visit Algaiarens and the small natural harbour of Cala Morell where you will find an incredible necropolis of 14 man-made prehistoric burial caves, used from 1700BC until the 2nd Century AD. Finally, you will return to Ciutadella for your last night, where you can relax, explore and dine before your journey home the next day.
