Starting from Alghero, one of the most beautiful owns on the island of Sardinia, this tour takes you along Sardinia's wild and unspoiled Western coast. Discover the island's lush pastures, Mediterranean scents, and cave dwellings carved into rocks. Cycle past the turquoise sea, enjoying vistas over majestic cliffs and white sandy beaches.
Highlights of this tour include the old towns of Alghero and Bosa, the Sinis peninsula, the ancient ruins of Tharros, the Costa Verde, the dunes of Piscinas, the islands of Carloforte and Sant'Antioco and finishing on the charming Costa Del Sud.
Day 1 - Alghero
Please either make your own way to Alghero, or book one of our transfers.
Day 2 - Capo Caccia Loop (57km)
From Alghero, you will ride out to Capo Caccia, an imposing 168m high rocky outcrop on a peninsula. You will pass by the beautiful Le Bombarde and Lazzaretto beaches, as well as the prehistoric Nuraghe Palmavera bastion. Once you reach the Capo Caccia, lock your bike up and walk down the "Escala del Cabirol", a 656-step staircase carved into the rock, which leads down to the Nettuno caves. The route back to Alghero takes you past vineyards and olive groves.
Day 3 - Alghero to Bosa (50km)
Leaving Alghero, you will cycle along the clifftop road, offering views of Capo Caccia and the gulf of Alghero. As you pass Cape Marargiu, look out for the red and pink cliffs, and you may even catch a glimpse of a rare griffin vulture circling. You'll then arrive in Bosa, a medieval town known for its embroidery and fine gold jewellery.
Day 4 - Bosa to Santu Lussurgiu (54km)
Today you can have a leisurely morning on the beach, or exploring Bosa, before today's route takes you inland. Passing through Flussio and Tinnura, you will see the local women weaving wicker baskets. After the village of Sagama, this scenic route takes you to San Leonardo, where the natural spring makes this an ideal place to stop for a refreshing drink. Your day finishes in the picturesque village of Santu Lussurgiu, known throughout Sardinia for its saddle makers.
Day 5 - Santu Lussurgiu to Cabras (57km)
Today we will head back towards the sea, so enjoy the panorama as you gently descend towards the flat coastal plains of the Sinis wetlands. Keep your eyes peeled for the colonies of pink flamingos! The area is also the sight of one of the most beautiful spots on the whole island, the white quartz beach at Is Arutas. Tonight you will stay in a charming countryside hotel.
Day 6 - The Sinis Peninsula (36km)
A shorter riding day allows plenty of opportunities for extended stops, on this loop that takes in San Giovanni Sinis on the Sinis Peninsula. As well as the early Christian church of San Giovanni, you can visit the historical Phoenician ruins of Tharros, which were inhabited over 2,500 years ago. On your way to Arborea you will also pass the mediveal historic centre of Oristano.
Day 7 - Costa Verde and dunes of Pisconas (46/54km)
Today's route passes some of the most spectacular and wild natural beauty spots of the island, along the Costa Verde. The sand dunes on Piscinas beach are the highest in Europe, at over 50m.
Day 8 - Arbus to Gonnesa - The Mines of Sulcis (41km)
Today is a journey into Sardinia's ancient mining history, passing the fascinating abandoned mines at Ingortosu and Planusartu. At Nebida, the old ore washery is nestled in the varied Mediterranean bush, looking out over the sea from the foot of a 540-step descent. In between, you will also pass Portixeddu's golden beach and the imposing Pan di Zucchero cliff.
Day 9 - The Island of Carloforte (43km)
After descending to Fontanamare, you will take the ferry from Portoscuso to Carloforte. On the island, you will see the locals returning from fishing for red tuna. You will then continue on towards Calasetta, on the island of Sant'Antioco.
Day 10 - Calasetta to Sant'Anna Arresi (40km)
The day starts with a ride through the luscious meadows of the island of Sant'Antioco, which are green in the summer and golden-yellow in the summer. After crossing back on to the mainland, in Tratalias you can visit the Pisan sanctuary, a monument of great importance during Sardinia's Romanesque period. Before arriving in Sant'Anna Arresi, you will cycle along the shores of Lake Monte Pranu, and along the peaceful rolling planes of Sulcis.
Day 11 - Sant'Anna Arresi to Pula - the South Coast (57km)
The final stretch of your tour is along the beautiful Costa delSud, with its gleaming white beaches, unspoilt natural landscape and imposing cliffs. You will also visit the ancient Phoenician settlement in Nora, and pass the 16th century tower of Cape Malfatano.
Day 12 - Departure from Pula
After enjoying breakfast in Pula, your tour scomes to an end this morning.

This cycling holiday uses hybrid bikes with gearing suitable for the local terrain. All bikes are regularly maintained and offer comfort along with good quality components. You will receive an accessories package including a bicycle pannier bag with a good capacity, repair kit, lock, key, and air pump.
When you make a booking with us, we take your height(s) and the appropriate bike size is matched up accordingly.
Helmets are not provided and you will need to bring your own to use. We always recommend wearing a helmet when on your cycling holiday.
